What is america losing?
Lets take a typical example:
My friend and his wife both have jobs here. They pay around $50K-60 income tax (approx) as a couple.
They have 10 yrs of exp. (approx) or have masters degree. They have a decent bit of 401K. And about 30 years of career left. They also have capital investment in India which is growing at a good pace.
Now if even one is forced to go back I am sure both of them will go back to India or wherever they are from. Makes sense?
So what are they losing by going back to India? Some $$$$. Thats all? No debt. no hassle, just semi retirement early enough.
Now think about 100 couples like this?
Now think about 1000 couples like this?
1000* 60 K = $60 million of taxes and social security lost. Who is going to pay the troops in Iraq? Or the USCIS dumbo? Will he have a job to do if we leave?
And if we leave who is going to pay the medical bills of the baby boomer who needs medicare soon?
Lets say, they replace us with younger workers. what will be their salary? 50K or 75K. lets say 80 K. Chances are they are single. If they are married. Will their wife work immediately. If no, they are collecting taxes from him at a married rate while his spouse has no income. If his wife is educated, how long will she want to live on H4? If she doesnt get H1 will they both go back or stay here endlessly? Chickens (americans).
How much tax will they will pay? If they are on F1 EAD, even better, they dont even pay social security.
Of course we lost $$$$ income, but we are not in so much deep shit as US would be if they lose 1000 couples, just 2000 people.
Now lets say we go to India and undergo semi retirement. Fine, US companies maintain competitive advantage and they gain most. But if we decide to continue to excel, can not such 2000 start a formidably competitive business? Who wins? India or USA? Or will they start multiple businesses?
Its about the numbers. If 1 or 2 dont get GC , it doesnt matter. But if thousands are impacted, most of them smart people, it will hurt someone here or many ones.
What have we really asked for in return? Just a piece of plastic that will let us live and contribute like everyone else here.
They have a problem with that too. Bloody morons.
For how many years this game of making people fools will continue? Message spreads fast. I am already telling my junior relative what to expect in America.

and i am NOT the real Lou Dobbs. But in all seriousness guy, I think we really have to wake up. We are illegal immigrants....
And we are not asking for Amnesty...
There is no deying the fact that this country has benefited from us much than us. How about some moral abligation and sense of fairness from this great country???
Wish you could attend the rally. "Waking up" equals coming to the rally:) Thank you for contribution, appreciate very much.

Check the forums for a link to a document that indicates that Banks do accept EAD, etc.
I have refinance with BoA and it went thru just fine. I tried to find the correct link but haven't found it yet. If i do, i'll send it across.
But do a forum search for refinance, etc.

It is not a big deal dude...if not for this immigration system, we could be making even more..think about $80-$100/hr if you are an independent contractor. This a minimum for a decent contract with vendor directly.
And if you have ~100-200K for investments, with some experience and any luck..you could be making another 100K out of it from trading and active investing in other areas. That comes to ~250-300K minimum. There are no bounds when life is free and in this great country. Unfortunately, things have turned discriminative and our potentials are being restricted(atleast for non-EAD guys) and you have to be prepared for getting outright kicked out of this country.
and u don't have 25 USD for IV ???

Hello Pappu,
I have written this article on the plight of Work visa holders.Feel free to make editions.
Here it is..
Rewards of Being a Legal Immigrant!
The spirit of this nation had always been to award hard working and law abiding people irrespective of their color, race, culture or origin. But off late there has been a rise in the anti-immigration sentiment. One reason for this is an alarming rise in the illegal immigrants in United States estimated to be around 12 million. This has led many to believe that immigrants in general are not good for the already settled (Permanent residents and Citizens) Americans and they depress economy and put burden on the economy. This is a false notion harbored by many and needs analysis. First of all there is a vast difference between a legal and an illegal immigrant. A legal immigrant or people living temporary are here to help this nation make progress and are here to contribute to the economy of this nation. They have come here on the specific request by the companies; universities and other organizations. They are unnecessarily being victimized for their status as part of the larger immigrant community. They are the most misunderstood community today among the immigrants in general.
The temporary visitors largely are H-1 B, L-1 and Business visa holders .Many of these people are here for many years and waiting for their Green Card after having applied for it. While they continue to work for the same employer waiting for their permanent residency, they feel stagnated in their career path, salaries and even on personal development front because the law does not permit them to change employer while their green card is under process. If they do change then the whole process will have to start afresh.
As one frustrated and depressed work visa holder, Rajneesh puts it ?The plight of an immigrant can only be understood by those who are in the same shoes?. A legal immigrant who is in USA is only here on invitation by the US based companies or organizations willing to legally sponsor them for reasons that they do not have enough skilled professionals to do the job. The fate of being a person waiting in queue for a Green Card was never dreamt by me unless I was a victim of such a wait myself. The whole life revolves around waiting for just one card called green card. All the life?s plans are shelved off for some future dates. Many of them wait for settlement as they fear that buying a home or property or starting their own company may be at risk if their green Card is not approved or if they are out of status and in that case they may have to leave the country. There is a constant fear lurking in their psyche that what if they are laid off when they are waiting for their visa dates to become current so that they can apply for adjustment of status. Their dependent wives cannot work legally as law does not permit them to work while on dependent visa. These in many cases have resulted in domestic violence and depressed spouses resulting in disturbed and broken families. The spouses of these legal temporary residents stay at home and feel frustrated as they are also highly educated and can tremendously contribute to the development of the nation if given an opportunity. They feel choked as they have to plan well ahead in time for visits to home country and have to keep themselves abreast with latest immigration laws and by laws. A lack of this planning and understanding has resulted in many being denied entry while trying to re-enter. There are so many issues that they have to deal with being a temporary resident here just because they chose to come to America in search of realizing the American Dream. Most of them feel as if they made a wrong decision having come to America. This has sent a negative feedback in their native countries that America is no longer a welcoming nation for temporary work visa holders and one may have to wait up to more than ten years to get permanent residency. This feedback has turned many potential high tech and software professionals elsewhere. The current wait time in Canada and Australia is less than a year. European nations are also becoming a very welcoming society for these people. So the competition to secure them is getting hot.
While the wait becomes long the anxiety and depression starts to sets in most of the cases. Many have therefore already left this country and this is a drain on the economy as they are now a part of other nation?s economic development. Many of this class of people were educated in United States and were contributing but the immigration laws have forced them to go elsewhere. This class of people have advanced degrees from either US or other countries and have an average work experience of more than 3 years. They form the top class professionals among the populatoin and their loss is a loss to this nation.America is land of opportunity and for those willing to work hard for a better future should be rewarded and taken care of, but it seems there is no one listening right now to their voice. The spirit of America seems to be getting lost somewhere.
There are organization and groups like NumbersUSA who oppose any increase in their visa numbers which can drastically help these victims of bureaucracy, but due to their short sightedness they fail to see that the same people whom they are opposed to will help increase the economic well being of this nation once they become permanent residents. This is so because once they get permanent residency, they all will move up in the ladder demanding higher salaries and thus supporting the proponents of anti-immigrants view point. Right now they are all stuck in the same state for years. This may in some case lead to their exploitation which may in fact depress wages. Their short-sightedness, misinformation and vague propaganda have created an atmosphere where the na?ve public fails to understand the difference between the real benefactors and illegal immigrants. This has led public develop an overall anti-immigrant sentient.
Presently there is a bill pending in Senate called the SKIL bill (S.2691) introduced by senator John Cornyn (TX) Co-sponsored by George Allen (R, VA), Wayne Allard (CO), Bennett Robert (UT) and others. There is another related bill introduced by John Shadegg (AZ).This bill seeks to increase the annual visa caps for Immigrants visa under Employment category, exempt students who earned masters in USA, Allows to apply for Adjustment of Status even though there may not be immediate available Visa numbers. The bill is intended to secure the American competitiveness in 21st century while countries like India, China, Australia and European countries compete for skilled man power in Software and high tech sector to secure their competitiveness. This bill will help reduce the wait times for Temporary work Visa holders helping them assimilate faster in US society and thus securing the nations? interest.
There are reforms for this class of immigrants in the much debated comprehensive immigration Reform Bill passed by Senate but congress did not pass it. These provisions got lost in the shadow of illegal immigration debate and therefore separate bills were introduced by way of SKIL Act of 2006 to take care of the plight of Temporary visa holders. By clubbing the provisions for both legal and illegal population in one bill did much harm to this community as they were totally neglected by the congressmen. These people pay taxes, social security (unfortunately cannot be claimed once they leave this country), contribute to the social causes by volunteering, donating during emergencies and they very much feel themselves a part of this nation.
But the administration failed to reform current Visa availability issue which is doing much harm to the nation.
The public is expected to understand the plight of these people and pressurize congress to pass this bill and not misunderstand the other immigration bills pending in senate which are controversial. These people deserve credit and appreciation for helping this nation and definitely needs a much awaited attention from the public and Government.

My H1 extension is under process. I had applied in Dec 2006. My DL expires on May 6. Is it possible to renew my license with the H1 extension receipt?. Is it possible to do Premium Processing now?
Not sure about NJ, but in NY they want to see your i94 that is attached to your approval notice if you dont have a valid stamp.
You do have time for premium processing but also find out locally if you can go back with an expired DL (expired within a month or so) , in most DMV I think they permit extension of expired DL. I am not sure about it, but You may want to verify.

In addition to my above post, one can be on h1b and keep getting h1b extensions and apply for consular processing instead of AOS.
You know what, my head is going bananas. What you said makes sense too. May be it finally boils down to what IO thinks who is handling your case and LUCK!

If you need solutions to your problems, you need to act as professionally as possible. Please stop throwing tantrums and also mind your P's and Q's when you utter expletives against the USCIS. Would you be brave enough, if not foolhardy enough, to reproduce whatever you've said in your threads here in a separate letter and send it out to the USCIS? Trust me, you'll not, since you'll act politely and courteously to make out your case. Decorous behaviour is called for when dealing with pertinent issues in the IV forum.

Hi gurus,
Can you please let me know your views on my situation where both my original APs are stamped at the POE when I went to India and came back to US. Since I do not have a third AP original, will I have to get one from USCIS or can I use these two stamped ones to return to US if I intend to travel in near future?
Is it possible to go to nearby USCIS office to get a new original AP?
Please share your views,
Thanks!

Did use the technique mentioned here and was able to send the flyer to all new agencies in less then 5 minutes.
Dear All
The website
http://capwiz.com/aila2/dbq/media/ contains email/ address of 6479 media address
depends on javascript to force you to send only 5 messages at a time.
here is small shortcut:So switch off javascript
on IE go
Tools>Internet Options>Security>Internet>Custom level>Scripting
Close the browser and open it for again for your state.
also the format is like this if you want to send numerically
http://capwiz.com/aila2/mail/compose/?type=ME&alertid=&mediaid=1&mediaid=2&mediaid=3
the "&mediaid=1" seems to be the repeating unit except for the number
my IE only takes 179 address at a time As i mentioned there are 6479 address so if maybe some smart techie knows to increase the address bar size

Good job pcs !!
I'll take my family to the congressman's office and the documents that you suggested. We can not sit quiet now!
I met the local office of my Congressman with the following documents to make it easy & simple..
A copy of the Congresswoman Lofgren's letter written to USCIS etc ( download it from IV homepage )
A copy of Today ( July 5th ) Wall Street Journal . This issue has story about this fiasco.
Downloaded news flash from Murthy.com regarding Visa bulletins of 13th June & the screwup bulletin on 2nd July
Above was good enough to convince them regarding the mess & they promised action on their part..
IMPORTANT... I clarified that IT IS A PROCEDURAL ISSUE WITH USCIS
NOT AN IMMIGRATION ISSUE WHERE CONGRESS HAS TO TAKE ACTION
This really made them very comfortable as she said, we keep writing to concerned offices about procedural matters.
I told them that they should ask USCIS to " RECEIVE" aour applications to minimize our finanacial loss and other headache of refiling at a later date
Please note, it is real easy to meet the Congressman as they have local offices may be one mile away from your office or home.
Small towns like mine are great for this effort as compared to big towns. I encourage all of you particularly living in small towns to make this small move, which I am sure can resolve our issue & we will save all the $$$ in refiling & avoid further agony
Since your butt is on fire like mine.... I do not think I need to convince you to act on this
Best wishes

Age Out Issue for filing I-485: Gurus, please advise me on the age out issue of my son.
(1) Dates & Calculations effecting filing I_485: Here are the dates and the calculations I did which result in effective age of 21 yrs + 1 month + 1 day thus making it Age-out issue for filing for I-485 for my son.

(B) I-140 receipt : 2/22/2006 I-140 approval : 3/22/2006
(C) I-140 pending period : One month (too fast where it was not a help!)
(I-140 was approved in my sons 20th year however, I learned that it is not of any help for filing his I-485)
(D) Applied for I-485 (for rest of family not for son) (Thanks to IV) : First week of July 2007
(E) DOB of son : 3/30/1986

(H) Age as on above date (6/1/2007) : 21 yrs + 2 month + 1 day
(I) Benefit from CSPA :(I-140) pending days (C) : 1 month
(J) Effective age for filing I-485 during current window : (H) (J) : 21 yrs + 1 month + 1 day
(2) Since, he aged out for filing for I-485 (also based on attorneys calculation), his papers were not included and only papers for rest of the family were filed in July, 2007. Friends, is there any other interpretation of CSPA which could be helpful in this scenario?
(3) Other Particulars (which could potentially offer any other solution / advice): I am from India and in US from sep 1998 (change of employer forced me to restart my GC process) and my son entered USA in Oct 1999 at his 13 yrs and stayed continuously & studied in USA from 9th standard. Currently, he is in final yr of under graduate study and is on F1 visa from March 2007 (after completing 21 yrs) paying high (2.5 times the instate fee) international student fee.
(4) Can I do any thing in the current window when dates are current (until 8/17/07): Friends, if there is any way of filing his I-485, it will be of great help since he could continue his graduate study at reasonable cost (at instate tuition fee). Are there any other options in this situation? Is there any possibility of I-485 getting receipted (if filed) since he is supposed to have his PD frozen for his application for family based I-485 at parents PD (if applied with in one year of parents I-485?) (I am referring to a clause in CSPA which states that the application will automatically be converted to family based I-485 if applied with in one year Of course, these dates are not current now).
(5) I am not aware of how many others are affected with age-out issue in EB based cases. Can we come together through IV and identify potential action items? Can IV and immigration community help in addressing the age-out issue in bills proposed to be introduced (like DREAM / SKILL etc) now on (Particularly since the percentage of affected people may be very low with less voice that could be heard). I am thankful to IV & the core team for their extraordinary efforts and shall be contributing my part shortly.
Sorry for the long note I thought the complexity of the issue needs it.
Thx GCVir
(1) Dates & Calculations effecting filing I_485: Here are the dates and the calculations I did which result in effective age of 21 yrs + 1 month + 1 day thus making it Age-out issue for filing for I-485 for my son.
(A) Priority date : Nov, 2005
(B) I-140 receipt : 2/22/2006 I-140 approval : 3/22/2006
(C) I-140 pending period : One month (too fast where it was not a help!)
(I-140 was approved in my sons 20th year however, I learned that it is not of any help for filing his I-485)
(D) Applied for I-485 (for rest of family not for son) (Thanks to IV) : First week of July 2007
(E) DOB of son : 3/30/1986
(F) Currant age : 21 yrs + 4 months (Currently on F1 and doing his under grad in US)
(G) Date to be considered for determining the age for filing I-485 : 6/1/2007
(since the monthly bulletin is released on 6/12/2007)

Hi Guys,
I noticed recently a lot of people have the status of "Donor" instead of "Senior Member", "Member", Junior Member etc.
How does one become a "Donor". I have donated to IV SEVERAL times in the past.
Can you take sometime to fill in your profile?
